Most residents know one or two of these seasons. Fewer know the whole calendar, which is what determines whether waiting is worth it. Here is how the year actually runs.
The quick version
The heaviest discounting in Qatar clusters into four windows: Ramadan and Eid, summer clearance (June to August), Back to School (August to September), and the November to February stretch covering White Friday, Qatar National Day and Shop Qatar.
If you can time a major purchase, the late-year window is generally the strongest for electronics and appliances. Fashion bottoms out in summer clearance. Groceries follow Ramadan more than anything else.
Ramadan and Eid
The biggest retail season in Qatar, and not a fixed one — Ramadan moves roughly eleven days earlier each year on the Gregorian calendar, so check the dates rather than assuming.
What discounts: groceries most heavily, especially staples, dates, rice, oil and cooking essentials. Hypermarkets run extended campaigns rather than the usual weekly cycle, often several weeks long. Fashion picks up in the run-up to Eid, as does perfume, gold and gifting.
What to know: grocery promotion depth is real, but competition for stock is intense and shopping hours shift dramatically. Restaurants move to Iftar and Suhoor formats with their own set of package deals, which is a separate market from the daytime dining scene.

Summer clearance — June to August
Qatar's summer empties the city as residents travel, and retailers respond by clearing seasonal stock.
What discounts: fashion most aggressively, since spring and summer collections need to move before autumn arrives. Mid-season sale signage appears from June, with the deepest cuts in late July and August as clearance moves to final markdown.
What to know: selection narrows fast. The steepest percentage is usually attached to the least popular sizes and colours. Shopping early in the window gets you range; shopping late gets you price.

Back to School — August to September
A short, sharp season aimed squarely at families, and one of the more reliably good-value windows in Qatar.
What discounts: stationery, school bags, uniforms and children's shoes, plus a meaningful electronics component — laptops, tablets and printers routinely appear in Back to School bundles rather than being discounted on their own.
What to know: the laptop and tablet promotions in this window are frequently as good as anything in November, and they arrive three months earlier. If a student device is on your list, this season is often the right moment rather than waiting for White Friday.

White Friday — November
The regional version of Black Friday, and the single biggest discount event of the year for electronics.
What discounts: electronics, appliances, mobile phones, and increasingly furniture and home goods. Campaigns typically run for a week or more rather than the single day the name suggests, and many retailers extend into the following week.
What to know: this is the season most prone to inflated reference pricing. A product marked "was QAR 2,999, now QAR 1,899" is only a genuine saving if it actually sold at QAR 2,999 in the preceding weeks. The reliable test is to note the price of anything you are considering in October, then compare in November. Retailers who discount honestly hold up under that check; the rest do not.

Qatar National Day — December
What discounts: broad storewide campaigns across most categories, often with a national theme. Hypermarkets, department stores and electronics retailers all participate.
What to know: National Day falls on 18 December, and campaigns typically build for a week or more beforehand. It lands close enough to White Friday that retailers sometimes carry unsold November stock straight into it — which occasionally means better prices in December than November on specific lines.
Worth waiting for: situationally. Check both windows if your purchase can wait a month.
Shop Qatar — January to February
A tourism-driven retail festival, running annually in the winter months.
What discounts: mall-wide campaigns, fashion, and prize-draw promotions across major retail destinations. The format leans toward events and raffles alongside straight markdowns.
What to know: the headline promotions are often experiential rather than pure discount — draws, gift-with-purchase, mall activations. Genuine markdowns exist but require more filtering than in White Friday or summer clearance.
Worth waiting for: moderate. Better for the experience than the price.
The rest of the year — the weekly cycle
