Planning Sealine beach camping? How to get there, the 2026–27 camping season dates, Inland Sea trips, other beaches to try and a full packing list.

When the weather turns in October, Sealine Beach becomes the place to be. Families set up tents and majlis seating on the sand, the dunes fill with 4x4s, and weekend evenings smell of charcoal and grilled chicken. It is Qatar's best-known camping spot, and for good reason: soft sand, calm water and real desert dunes, all within an hour of Doha.

This guide covers how to get there, how the 2026–27 camping season works, the trip on to the Inland Sea, other beaches worth trying, and what to pack. When you are ready to shop, you can compare camping stores in Qatar for tents, chairs and BBQ grills, with their areas and this season's offers, in one place.

Where Is Sealine Beach?

Sealine is on the coast near Mesaieed, south of Doha. From central Doha it is about a 40-minute drive, most of it on the main road south. The beach itself is reachable in a normal car.

The dunes are a different story. Beyond the beach, the sand gets soft and steep, and you need a 4x4, lowered tyre pressure and someone who knows how to drive on sand. Many drivers stop at the edge of the dunes to let air out of their tyres before heading in, and pump them back up before the road home.

Day Trip or Overnight?

Most people start with a day trip: arrive in the afternoon, set up chairs and a grill, and stay for sunset. It is the easiest way to see if you enjoy it, and it needs very little gear.

If you want to stay the night, you have three routes. Some families pitch a tent for a single night near the beach. Others book a ready-made resort camp, such as Regency Sealine Camp, where the tents, beds and meals are arranged for you. Qatari families who want a camp for the whole winter register for a seasonal permit through the ministry, which is covered below. Rules for overnight stays can change from season to season, so check the ministry's latest notice before you plan a night on the sand.

The 2026–27 Camping Season

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change opens the winter camping season on 25 October 2026, and it runs until 20 April 2027. Registration for seasonal camps is done through the ministry's website and the Bee'ah app, in phases by region, and then reopens for all remaining areas from 22 to 31 October.

Seasonal permits are for Qatari nationals aged 25 and over, with one permit per person per season. Fees depend on the type of area, and reports this season differ, so check the amount on the ministry's site before you pay. Renting out or advertising a permitted camp is not allowed and can lead to the permit being cancelled.

Rules to Know Before You Camp

No fires on the sand. Lighting a fire or BBQ directly on the sand is prohibited. Use a grill that stands off the ground, and take the cold ash home in a metal tin.

Take everything back. Bring rubbish bags and leave the spot cleaner than you found it. Glass and plastic left on the beach end up in the sea.

Keep off fenced and protected areas. Parts of the coast and desert are nature reserves. Stick to open areas and existing tracks.

Mind the tide. Pitch your tent well above the high-water line, and check that your car is not parked where the water reaches at night.

From Sealine to the Inland Sea

Khor Al Adaid, better known as the Inland Sea, is one of Qatar's most striking sights: a sheltered bay where the dunes run straight down to the water, with Saudi Arabia on the far side. It is a protected nature reserve, and the only way in is across the dunes south of Sealine.

The drive is serious off-roading. Only go with a 4x4, an experienced desert driver and ideally a second car. If you have not done it before, book a desert safari from Doha. Most tours stop at Sealine to lower tyre pressure, cross the dunes, and reach the Inland Sea in time for sunset, often with sandboarding or a camel ride along the way.

Other Camping Beaches in Qatar

Camping beaches in Qatar compared: Sealine, Khor Al Adaid, Al Ghariya, Fuwairit and DukhanWhere to camp in Qatar, and what car you need. Savefy guide

Al Ghariya: about 80 km north of Doha, with a long sandy beach and calmer weekends than Sealine. A 4x4 is recommended for the last stretch.

Fuwairit: just south of Al Ghariya, with a wide beach that is reachable by normal car.

Dukhan Beach: on the west coast, a good choice if you want sunset over the water and an easy drive.

Sealine gets very busy at weekends. If you want space, go mid-week or try one of the northern beaches.

What to Pack for Sealine

A tent with long sand pegs, camping chairs, a raised BBQ grill, an ice box and a camping light with a stand cover most trips. Sealine gets windy, so choose a low tent with guy ropes and peg it down before you unpack. Desert nights in December and January can be surprisingly cold, so bring sleeping bags or heavy blankets even if the afternoon is warm.

Most of this is sold in hypermarket camping sections during the season. Compare tents, camping chairs and BBQ grills across Qatar before you buy, and pick up the food on the way: fresh chicken near you and butchers and meat shops in Doha are both easy stops on the road south.

Staying Safe in the Desert

Tell someone where you are going and when you plan to be back. Fill the fuel tank before you leave Doha, carry more water than you think you need, and keep your phone and a power bank charged. If you go into the dunes, go with at least one other car, and carry a shovel and a tyre pressure gauge. In an emergency, call 999.
