Hard Shell or Soft Luggage?

Hard shell (ABS or polycarbonate) protects fragile items and is easy to wipe clean. Polycarbonate is lighter and tougher than ABS.

Soft luggage (fabric) is lighter, often has outside pockets and squeezes into tight spaces, which is handy for overhead lockers.

What to Check Before You Buy

Wheels: four spinner wheels are easiest to roll through airports.

Weight: a lighter empty bag leaves more of your allowance for packing.

Zips and handles: test the telescopic handle and zips in the store; these fail first.

Lock: a built-in TSA lock helps if you travel through the USA.

Warranty: ask how long it lasts and what it covers, especially wheels and handles.

Packing for a Trip Home

Long-haul trips home from Doha usually mean gifts, food items and heavier bags. Weigh your bags at home before leaving, keep medicines and valuables in your cabin bag, and check your destination's rules on carrying food. A luggage scale and a set of packing cubes cost little and save stress at check-in.

Looking After Your Luggage

Wipe hard shells with a damp cloth, empty and air soft bags after each trip, and store suitcases nested inside each other to save space. Check wheels and the telescopic handle before every journey; most luggage shops can replace wheels for less than the cost of a new bag.

Luggage for Kids

Children's ride-on and character suitcases are popular for holidays. Choose a lightweight one with a strong handle, and keep it to cabin size so it doubles as a carry-on.

Travel Accessories Worth Adding

A digital luggage scale, packing cubes, a neck pillow, a universal travel adapter, luggage tags and a padlock are cheap add-ons that hypermarkets often sell next to the luggage aisle. Many travel-season offers bundle them with a suitcase set.

Best Time to Buy Luggage in Doha

Luggage offers usually peak before the summer travel season (May to June), and again before Eid and the winter school holidays. Savefy shows each store's current offer with its valid-until date, so you can buy when the price is right.
