Back to School Checklist

What Each Age Group Usually Needs

KG and early primary: crayons, washable markers, glue sticks, safety scissors, a sturdy small bag and plenty of name labels.

Primary: ruled and square notebooks, a pencil case with basics, colour pencils and a reading bag.

Middle and high school: A4 files and dividers, a geometry set, a scientific calculator and a larger backpack.

Many Doha schools, whether Indian, British or Arabic curriculum, send their own supply list, so use these as a starting point and check your school's list.

Stationery Shop, Hypermarket or Bookstore?

Art, Craft and Project Supplies

School projects often need chart paper, foam sheets, glitter, glue guns and model materials at short notice. Stationery shops usually have the widest craft range, while hypermarkets stock the basics. Keep a small project kit at home through the school year to avoid last-minute runs.

Back-to-School at Hypermarkets

Hypermarkets are often the cheapest place for notebooks, pens and school bags during back-to-school promotions, because they buy in bulk.

Safari Hypermarket runs back-to-school and festival promotions across its branches, from Salwa Road and Safari Mall Abu Hamour to Ezdan Mall Al Gharafa and Al Khor.

Paris Hypermarket in Al Wakrah, Al Muntazah and Al Khor is convenient for families in the south and north.

Rawabi Hypermarket and Majlis Hypermarket post their school-season offers on Savefy too.

Saving on School Supplies

Buy the list in one trip during a back-to-school promotion rather than item by item. Choose value packs for pens, pencils and notebooks, which run out fastest. Reuse what lasts, such as geometry sets, calculators and pencil cases, from last year. Label everything at home so fewer items get lost and replaced mid-term. And check whether your school sells a ready-made supply pack, which is sometimes cheaper than buying separately.

When to Buy

Late July to August: back to school. The biggest range and the strongest offers, but also the busiest stores, so shop early.

January: second-term restocking, with smaller offers.

All year: office supplies such as printer paper, files and pens.

Office Stationery and Bulk Buying

For businesses, many stationery shops supply in bulk and deliver. Ask about monthly supply, invoices with your company details, and bulk prices on printer paper, toner, files and pens.
